I am a sucker for waterfalls. I don't know if it's because growing up my favorite song was "Don't Go Chasin' Waterfalls" which means reverse psychology must have really worked on me. ;-) I have recently hiked two amazing places in WITH waterfalls that I need to share with ya'll. Best part of all is they are both only an hour or two away from the Twin Cities. Pack up your pups and get ready for some beautiful views friends.
I will let the pictures do all (okay, most) of the talking.
1. Willow River State Park
Willow River State Park is located in Wisconsin just 5 miles north of Hudson. The main attraction is Willow Falls which is a powerful cascade you can explore. If you're brave enough you can even travel behind the waterfall and reach the other side! Pack some waterproof clothes if you enjoy getting wet- the falls are so fun to explore and cool off in.
Gibb's and I enjoyed our time so much we stayed a couple hours exploring.
He truly is an amazing adventure buddy!
The hike to the falls was very easy and so worth it as you can see. After visiting the park I would highly recommend stopping in the cute city of Hudson for more fun. Gibb's and I went into a local bookshop called Chapter 2 Books and grabbed some coffee afterwards. We will be back Willow River!
2. Banning State Park
Treat yourself to a visit to Banning State Park in Sandstone, MN! It is just minutes off of Highway 35 and this park has it ALL. From gorgeous rock formations to raging rapids this State Park took my breath away. The waterfall is small and relaxing and you can even take a swim underneath it- pup yeah!
Park your vehicle and start your hike at Blueberry Slide Rapids. But be prepared friends Blueberry slide rapids is the most mellow area of the park. The dogs enjoyed cooling off in the calm waters and we had no clue what views were to come.
Time for some adventure at Mothers Delight rapids. The river flows and the view is INCREDIBLE. The dogs enjoyed jumping on the rocks and climbing their way up the hill. Wasn't sure if they were Border Collies or Mountain goats!
We then hiked the Quarry Trail, the Spur Trail and the Wolf Creek Trail which led us through beautiful wooded acres. The trails brought us to our final destination- Wolf Creek Falls. This place felt like magic to me and next time I will pack my swimsuit! Dip, Dip, Hooray! Plan a whole day for Banning State Park there is so much to see.
What a wonderful world we live in- I feel so blessed to be able to explore it. I hope you feel inspired to get outside and enjoy natures beauty. I promise to keep scoping out beautiful places to share with you all. Until next time fur-iends! -Katie & Her Canines
